Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

Credits to Jesse Nicholas for the picture 😉

It’s been a pretty long time since we’ve been tagged to do the #midyearbookfreakout tag by Ana. If you haven’t already checked her blog out, then your missing out on some good stuff buddy. It might not be the middle of the year right now, but hey. We still want to do this tag and… ain’t nobody gonna stop us now. *left arm on waist, right arm wiggling around wildly and then snapping* By the way, these are only my answers (Lashaan). 😀

Best book you’ve read so far in 2015

This is probably the hardest question ever since this was the year where I started to read all the classic novels I’ve missed out for the past years. Yep, I haven’t heard of their awesomeness till my girlfriend showed up in my life. I’ll go on to say that Animal Farm is probably the shortest yet rich in content. Don’t get me wrong though. I could probably add FIVE more novels to this section, but I’m sure I could sneak them into the other sections too. *evil grin*

Best sequel you’ve read so far

I sadly haven’t read any sequels this year. I do plan on reading The Godfather Returns before 2015 though. It would probably end up being the only sequel and the best one I’ll probably have read for now. Hooray for straightforward foreshadowing ! 😉

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

I really would love to indulge a fantasy novel this year. Something to remind me of the those great fictional worlds I used to explore and appreciate as a youngster. Six of Crows seemed like something very popular nowadays and I think it’s going to be the new release that I plan on reading !

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

I think Go Set a Watchman falls in the second half of the year. I actually wasn’t anticipating this and I haven’t read To Kill A Mockingbird – long story, short, this novel is associated to a traumatic high school English Literature class. I do plan on overcoming this hatred and reading this masterpiece now. And since that day, the day I read its sequel has become the most anticipated day. Sorry, had to play on the words of this section cause I ain’t got no other books that I’m waiting for its release ! 😀

Biggest disappointment

As far as I’m concerned, comics fall into the book categories for me. So I’m going to put Batman: Earth One (Volume 1) as my biggest disappointment. You have no idea how every flip of a page had me questioning my need to finish this.

Biggest surprise

Saga. Good ol’ Saga. If you haven’t heard of this comic series, we’ve got a problem. Every volume of this masterpiece is bound to have something to surprise you. Even in your wildest imagination, the things you come across in there are inconceivable. Gosh, I can’t wait to read the next volumes ! 😀

Favorite new author (debut or new to you)

This is easy when you haven’t finished going through some of the most amazing classic tales out there. I’m going with my man George Orwell. Please don’t tell me you don’t know him. He’s bound to teach you some valuable lessons in life.

Newest fictional crush

Sadly, I don’t have one… Can I just say it’s Batman? Forever one-sided love.

Newest favorite character

Michael Corleone from The Godfather. His character evolution was just to epic. I also loved Randle McMurphy from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. These two were probably my favorite characters to this date.

Book that made you cry

I didn’t cry after any books, but I was saddened by The Sicilian. What happens in that story is just bewildering. How can you do such a thing Mr. Puzo. Why…?

Book that made you happy

This might be odd, but The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is definitely a book that carved a nice little smile by the time I reached the ending. All that due to the most amazing, exquisite and outstanding writing. That last chapter was so beautifully written and had me wondering about human nature even more than I already did. What a beautiful and amazing story.

Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. The film adaptation is godlike thanks to no other than Jack Nicholson (playing Randle McMurphy) and Louise Fletcher (playing Nurse Ratched). The acting was just impeccable. Although there was some big changes in the storyline, the film adaptation was amazing. It isn’t easy to make a movie off a book where the narrator is a character that isn’t exactly the protagonist. Additionally, how can you add those drug-filled moments the author had while writing into a movie? If you haven’t read this book or seen the classic movie, you should definitely check it out. So much to learn from this novel.

Favorite review you’ve written this year

I have to say that my favorite review is one of the one’s I wrote when Bookidote just recently happened. There was so much feedback and kind words thrown at me after I released that review and it was only then that I knew that reviewing what I read is something I’m always going to want to do. There’s nothing like sharing my thoughts on a book and hearing others opinion of it. The review in question is one of my favorite Batman graphic novels ever, The Killing Joke. Check it out if you haven’t already. 😉

Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

I’m going to go with The Gods of Gotham. Not only did I find it absolutely beautiful, it’s also the first book this year that got me back to reading. It’s also a gift from my girlfriend and I couldn’t be any more thankful for it. Did I mention that it had a nice feel too? God..

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

As I’ve mentioned before, I have to finish The Godfather Returns this year as well as To Kill A Mockingbird. I don’t know if I’ll have enough time to read a third one, but if I do, it would probably be The Alienist. Gosh, why are all the books I want to read so… huge. D:

Here’s a couple people we’d like to nominate for this tag. If you’ve ever done this or don’t feel like doing it, no worries. It’s far from being mandatory. Enjoy !

Yours truly,

Lashaan & Trang

    1. I really can’t wait to dive into that book. So much praise and probably well deserved praise too. I also plan on watching the 1962 movie adaptation of the book once I finish it. Can’t wait for this.
