1. Read this? Watch that!

Crime and Punishment: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)  Breaking Bad Poster

While reading Crime and Punishment, I couldn’t help myself but see flashes of scenes from Breaking Bad. You know the show did an outstanding job when you suddenly see the inspiration from the book just by reading it once. The similarity lies in the character development. You wouldn’t believe me how they were alike. You need to read the book if you haven’t watched to movie to see all the little details that Breaking Bad was able to convey with the mind of a criminal. On the other hand, you need to watch the show if you’ve never have already. It’s an instant classic in this Golden Age for movies.

2. Read this? Watch that!

Batman: Year One  Gotham Poster

This was too easy, but I had to do it for teensandtweensbookclub. They wanted me have something related to Batman for this post, and so I did! 😀 Gotham (TV show) is actually “supposed” to be based on the comics, Gotham Central. But once you read and then watch the show, you’ll be pretty disappointed. Gotham (TV show) loosely inspires itself on the source material. However, the show itself is actually quite interesting, compared to other superhero shows going on right now. Instead of putting the Gotham Central comic series, I just went with the classic Batman Year One, where Jim Gordon first appeared and played a pretty big role. If you’re a Batman fan, you should definitely try Gotham (TV Show). Even with its flaws, it still stands as a great show to watch!

3. Read this? Watch that!

The Martian  Interstellar Poster

This combo was done a little blindly since we both haven’t YET read The Martian. However, both this book and Interstellar are in outer space (most of the time) and they both deal with some very crucial themes. Although Interstellar is quite lengthy and has some cons, it still remained relevant and fascinating. After all, it’s Christopher Nolan with some top notch actors.

4. Read this? Watch that!

The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave, #1)  District 9 Poster

Now, if you don’t know what The 5th Wave is about, this combination might have spoiled it a little. Watching District 9 is a must, not only for its cinematography, but the plot is close to what The 5th Wave might give you; while being for an older audience. Survival is the key here.

5. Read this? Watch that!

The Godfather  Goodfellas Poster

Mario Puzo’s The Godfather is a brilliant classic. The Italian culture, the mafia universe, the bonds and the betrayals. It is nothing less than excellent, especially on the character front. A perfect movie to watch, if this is your type of thing, is GoodFellas. This movie is brilliant in so many ways. Robert De Niro and Ray Liotta were just beyond perfect.

    1. Absolutely! I began reading the books just so I could watch the movies afterwards. Loved The Godfather (both book and movie). Amazing acting, great adaptation; they did cut out a lot of events from the book and they also arranged the events differently, all to make it more fluent. I can’t wait to read The Godfather Returns and watch the movie (I have so much expectations for it)! 😀

    1. I want to read the book before watching the movie too ! But I’m such a cinephile, and my pile of TBR is just tooooo long, so I think I’m going to end up watching the movie before reading the book. 😀 😀

I definitely vouch for Goodfellas. It’s an instant classic, and if you’ve seen Breaking Bad, you might even recognize some inspirations for some of the iconic moments in the show! 😀

Thank you so much for the kind words! Greatly appreciated.

      1. fair enough! oh totally- a lot of the time I won’t bother with the book first if I think I’ll prefer the movie. Also, I very rarely read a book after seeing a movie- so that kind of forces me to read stuff first.
Awesome! I have seen breaking bad- it was really good, just a little too dark for me, so I had to stop watching it. I like how you matched it with Crime and Punishment- I completely agree with that pairing too. Glad to hear Goodfellas is awesome!
        You’re very welcome!

  1. This is great! Goodfellas was amazing, and The Godfather (the movie) was just as good; especially if you watch the epic because it’s in order chronologically, and has scenes the book didn’t have (according to my mom). I just recently bought The Martian because I really want to see the movie, although I’ll probably still end up watching the movie first. Awesome post!

      1. The second one is better than the first in my opinion. The entire movie is pretty much in Italian and it really captures what I felt was missing from the first movie. I hope you enjoy both movies!

  2. I’m currently in the middle of Breaking Bad but I’ve never read Crime and Punishment! I feel too intimidated by the size of the book. Now I’m thinking of giving it a try 😁

    1. It was definitely worth it; especially when I miss having my dose of Breaking Bad since the day I finished the series. 😀 Hope you’re enjoying the show ! It gets better every season ❤

  3. Ooh those are some awesome recommendations! I’ve seen ads of Gotham, but it’s kind of disappointing that it doesn’t stick with the original plot. It seems to stand on its own, though! I really think I should pick up District 9! That picture is absolutely spooky and makes me curious.
OMG as a sci-fi lover, I think it’s so bad I haven’t read/watched The Martian or Interstellar. I NEED TO. All I’ve heard are WONDERFUL things about both!
