YALLWEST Chapter 1 : Introduction

Hello lovelies! ❀

Almost a month ago we shared our excitement with all of you guys of our soon-to-happen adventure. It’s with even more hysteria that we’re here to yell that we’re just ONE DAY AWAY FROM THE BIG EVENT!!! HOORAY!! YALLWEST is about to officially open its doors to all the crazed bookworms out there in Santa Monica! There’s nothing more titillating than being able to assist this amazing convention AND visit LOS ANGELES for the FIRST TIME EVER!!! But this wouldn’t an adventure if we didn’t share this with everyone! As part of the YALLWEST 2016 event, we’re going to launch a 5 chapters mini-series right here on our blog giving an assessment of all the formidable things we’ve seen, smelt and heard!

Without further ado, here’s Chapter 1 of our YALLWEST adventure.

For those of you who don’t know and might have missed our initial post, YALLWEST is a book convention that brings together a bunch of young adult authors and various story makers from the comic, TV show and movie world! This festival, spread on two days, with a special Friday preview event, is a heaven for bookworms who drool at the sight of Marie Lu, Leigh Bardugo or even Rainbow Rowell. Filled with book signings, events, giveaways and freebies, YALLWEST makes any bookaholic’s dream come true.

Thumbs up for White Chicks!

For this second year of YALLWEST, the line-up is beyond amazing. Filled with so many more authors than the year before and a lot more popularity among fans, this year might be one of the biggest and more populated event yet! Two schedules have been released up until now to get the party started: the panel and signing schedule. You can find the full list of the panel schedule here.

However, the most important part of the festival for us remains the signing. Nothing like meeting the creator of the books we’ve read! The signing schedule looks like this:

If there’s any way to make the most of this, it’s going to be by the good old method.

Divide & Conquer.

It sure does help us that we’re two bookworms scouring around a plainfield with more distractions than Disneyland. Since line-ups are going to be a pain, we’re most probably going to have to split and hunt for goodies! I know! It’s unfair! But hey! This is the part where we share our tips and tricks to survive YALLWEST. Now, doesn’t that make things more fair?

Tips & Tricks:

1- The more the merrier! Being more than one lonely bookworm at this convention (or any convention for a matter of fact) will help you enjoy YALLWEST sooooo much more. Not only will you be able to share laughs, point at awesome authors and drool Niagara Falls, you’ll also be able to split up and get more things done for each other! What are friends for? Right?

2- Stock up on munchies! Pretend a zombie apocalypse is on a verge of happening. One of the most crucial ingredient to survival is FOOD. You’re going to be standing up and waiting in lines for more than half an hour, and sometimes hours! You don’t want to starve and end up eating the authors when it’s your time to shine do you? Have a nice stack of food in the depths of your bags, you’ll never know when your body is going to go berserk!

3- Post-it! What? Why? Huh? Simple! If you have a name as complicated as mine (L-a-s-h-a-a-n), then you’re going to want to make sure the authors write it right! Last thing you need is “Dear Lauzanne”. Make sure to have one in every book your bringing and you’ll be set on a stress-free signing moment with your favorite authors. πŸ˜‰

4- Running shoes! No. Not for the zombies. This is for everyone that knows that they’re going to be standing and walking around a lot on these days. If there’s one thing you don’t want, it’s pain. Having comfy feet will be a hell of a relief for everyone! And, who knows! Maybe you’ll even be less irate throughout the day.

5- Enjoy the event! Not a tip you expected huh? Well it’s quite simple! YALLWEST reunites a bunch of bookworms who are dying to see their favorite authors, a bunch of new books to read and meet other fanatics! Go out there and have fun! Talk to others and fangirl with everyone you meet!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

That’s it for Chapter 1! Stick around for the next Chapters in this wonderful adventure! πŸ˜›

We are probably on the airplane right now because we have scheduled this post haha πŸ˜€ Stay tune for more pics of our adventure tomorrow!

Yours truly,

Lashaan & Trang

  1. This was perfect for me to read today! I’m not going to YALLWEST, but I am going to the Emerald City Author Event tomorrow. πŸ™‚ Thanks for the tips! I’m so using the Post-it method. I don’t want a Deena or Dianna instead of Deanna.

  3. I’m planning on going to YALLWest tomorrow and these tips are incredibly helpful <33 Love this post!! This is my first time there so I'm super excited (and also a little worried!!)

Alsoo do you happen to know how long the lines are, about average? I'm trying to plan out my schedule accordingly :'') I've heard that some people start lining up before the sun even rises and I feel like my body physically won't be able to handle that!

    1. Thank you so much Hannah and I truly hope you’re having a blast! It was a unique and special event when we had the chance to go there!

The lines can be SUPER DUPER long depending on the author. I hear V.E. Schwab will be there. You can expect her line to be MEGA SUPER DUPER long. πŸ˜‰ If it’s sunny, an umbrella (or shade) can really help with the long wait. It’s going to be a physically challenging event! πŸ˜‰
