Vault of Dreams by Luke Taylor

MY RATING: ★/ 5

Emerald hills and ice blue lochs, bordered by Nørds raiders and the haughty monarchs of South Angle, each dynasty eager to seize lands weakened by a civil war in which a usurper has risen to seize the cloven throne.

why4starsCapture d_écran 2017-07-15 à 18.35.50Meet Six Of Crows and Lord of The Rings, my friends 😀  It was so mesmerizing to being able to read once again, a novel from one of my favourite author (that I’m happy to call friend !) I’ve praised Luke Taylor prose before in his novel The Quiet Kill , a psychological thriller. He came back this time with a total different genre. A prose that was elegantly displaying in a psychological but when turns into fantasy, I find a little too much.  That’s the reason why I removed a star from my rating. Some people will find this extremely beautiful to read and enjoy, but personally when there’s an excessive descriptions I just find it confusing as it takes away from the main story.

charactersvodDespite the  huge number of characters, they manage to all have development and depth which I find amazing. Their dynamism and changing POV’s make us appreciate their connections even more. I definitely had a more interest in Aerlyn and Niles, two badass characters.

The plot is the popular hero’s journey fantasy type which you won’t be disappointed for the world building is astonishing and the obstacles creatively challenging. The 8 character’s lives and events will intertwine and I was faced with awe when I realized the real story behind it. Every even in the novel had a purpose, like seeing a puzzle taking place and assemble in front of your eyes.

Again, big thank you to Luke Taylor for giving me a free copy of this book for review! 🙂  And so sorry how long it took for me to post it T_T

  1. Ohh lovely review! I understand your thoughts about long descriptions, more often than not they take my attention away from the main story and I’m not such a fan of that either. That being said, the book sounds really interesting 🙂

  2. Great review for this book Trang. 🙂 I already had Vault of Dreams on my to-read list after another blogger reviewed it but hearing you describe it as Six of Crows meets Lord of the Rings has just made me more excited to read this one! I may not have read Lord of the Rings but I LOVED Six of Crows. Also I’m really glad to see you enjoyed this release. 😀

  3. Wow six of crows meets LOTR?! Sounds like my type of book!! It’s a shame it was excessively descriptive though. But the characters and world building still sound so good, so I’m definitely going to check this out!! 😀 Great review!!
