MY RATING : ★★★★/5
I’ve always been sceptical with horror movies, because one I haven’t seen a good one yet. Two, I saw a horror movie once and it was spanish, that was one of my best experiences In my opinion and my own definition of horror, I’m sorry but American horror movie do not come even close in the horror section compared to Japanese, Thai or even Spanish. However, I was curious about IT movie and its phenomenon.
AND…It was really good, not because it was a horror movie, it was very good because it was the perfect suspense and thriller movie. But according to the screams on the movie theatre, I think the horror side was on point.
PLOT
What is IT about? Basically Stranger Things with a lot more suspense and OMG-SCREAMING moments.
We have these children who are bullied by the tough guys and they are forming their own Loser’s Club. But Billy, one the boy has his brother disappeared a few years ago and is even more sensitive since there are a lot of children disappearances these last few days. While no adult in town would do anything, the kids are starting to see some hallucinations about strange things, supernatural and on top of it, a clown.
The plot is pretty solid, the movie takes time to show us every kid’s version of the story and their fears, their interaction and how they build up their friendship. The story behind Pennywise the clown is still unclear to me, but it is interesting enough for me to go and pick the book at the nearest library (hope it won’t disappoint me teehee).
PERFECT ACTING
The cast was absolutely BRILLIANT. The kids reflect each of their personality very well, each has their own vulnerabilities and insecurities while shine through their kindness love for each other. Can we have a huge thumbs up for The Pennywise actor?! His acting was ON POINT.I was impressed with his voice when he’s trying to talk to kid from the sewer. This scene:
Okay I can feel what y’all saying right now :
For the experience, it is worth it but of course please be aware of scary elements in this movie: the clown, his mouth, the blood (a lot of blood), the eating body parts moments. However you will also find romance, friendship, humour and a cool gang of kids.
OVERALL
People usually complain about the bad acting bad plot in horror movies but I think this one offers us a solid actingand a kinda well plot (I’m still skeptical about the clown origin so I might have to read the book to find out more.) Oh and, EVERY SUSPENSE ELEMENT WAS A.M.A.Z.I.NG. This will keep you on the edge of your seats.
P.S: We all know even with my big talk about how this is not a horror movie but if I see the clown in front of me in real life I’ll probably going to shit my pants.
Let me know if you consider going watching this movie or not 😉
Great review 👍 I have read the book many years ago and have seen the original movie – I remember not being able to sleep for a while and am still a bit creeped out of clowns because of it lol Stephen King is a mastermind in writing creepy scary books, you won’t be disappointed in the book 📚 ps: I heard the new IT movie only focused on the kids and there’ll be a second one made with the rest of the story 😉👍

I am not a clown person.
I used to read a lot of Stephen King, but I have never been tempted to read this book.
I do not like clowns.
I don’t know what it is, … but they are creepy scary.
However,
your review sounds like the movie is good, so I may give it a shot, when it comes out on dvd.
Thanks!

Not a chance I’m going to watch it! The book was great and I could handle the creepiness of the printed word, but turn that into visuals and I’ll be keeping the lights on for the next year or two…

I watched the movie a few weeks back and I LOVED IT! Definitely did not disappoint and the backstory for Pennywise is wayyyyyy out there if you ask me but since its loosely tied to the Dark Towers series it’s acceptable.

Oh my gosh I’ve heard so many people say this movie was amazing, but I know in my heart if I watch it I won’t be able to sleep for weeks! XD I really really want to see it though. You have to tell me is it really psychological? Like did it really stay with you after you watched it? Because if the answer is yes then I’m deeeefinitely not watching it. XD

Oh yay I am really glad you liked this movie! I haven’t seen it yet but am really looking forward to watching it because I LOVE horror movies. There are ALOT of bad ones out there (American ones mostly haha) but I have heard good things about this movie. Awesome review!!

“It” is on my list of top ten Stephen King novels, so I’m thrilled that this adaptation is so fantastic. I have to admit I was a little nervous when I first heard they were doing a remake because I loved Tim Curry as Pennywise in the mini-series. Plus, film and tv adaptations of King’s books have been a mixed bag. Carrie, Misery, and The Stand were awesome! But others, like Cujo, and the more recent The Gunslinger, not so much. Movie tickets are too expensive here, so I’m going to have to wait until it comes out on dvd/blueray, but I can’t wait. Awesome review Trang!😊

I’ve always been sceptical of horror movies because I’m a massive wimp and I can never watch them without hiding behind a pillow or something! 🙂 I have actually seen the original It though, and while I can’t say I’ll see the remake I remember it being a good film so I’m glad you enjoyed the remake Trang.
Great review. 🙂

I’m skimming a bit to avoid spoilers since I still need to finish the book before I see the movie, but I do love the sound of IT! Perfect for Halloween next month.

Ah, I just saw this yesterday and loved it. They story behind Pennywise will be clearer in the conclusion 😉 I thought the cast was brilliant and the story maintained very well. I do admit this one did not hold the fear factor I thought it would, but the heavy use of CGI threw me off. I enjoyed it so well that I immediately came home and watched the original 🙂

Seen the movie and was way better then the TV series. Enjoyed most of it. Only issue was how a supernatural entity seemed to be easily defeated by a group of children who had little knowledge of what they were up against. In the book they at least went in armed with silver. Hope the next chapter addresses this issue.

Great review! I’m the worlds worst person to watch a horror with and the people in the cinema were actually laughing the fact I screamed at everything. I agree that the acting was incredible but thought they could build up more tension as the movie continued as we saw all the scariest elements (massive clown and blood and other scary stuff) from the first scene. xx

Nice review. Something I felt that stood out to me was the movie was based more on the concept of fear, and frightening the cast rather than trying to scare the audience. The acting was fantastic and now I can’t wait for the sequel.

Okay I have to admit I love Stephen King but IT and me have some issues… The storytelling is great but I am bloody afraid of CLOWNS!!!🤡🤡🤡🚫🚫🚫 😱😱😱 I live in South Carolina in the U.S. well you know this, Lol, anways there is this crazy ass person who would dress as a crazy ass psychotic clown and stalk people and walk around neighborhoods by people’s houses and play grounds!😱😱😱 Like WTF?! Only in S.C. I shit you not just like The American Horror Story but me and clowns have had issues way before this so I watched this movie and was so scared to finish. LMAO. I’m a wuss.
