  1. My only exposure to the New Gods were through some Elseworlds books and the Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Hunted graphic novel. Neither time left me wanting to check them out more. They must have a pretty devoted following though, as they seem to keep hanging around ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I’d honestly be surprised to run into anyone who read any of the original New Gods stories. They never lasted long, and Mister Miracle was the only one that lasted the longest with around 18 issues or something back in the day, which sort of explains why Tom King and Mitch Gerads tackled that character now.

By the way, there’s actually a New Gods movie in the works. Which will be directed by Ava Duvernay. ๐Ÿ˜›

  2. I am LOVING your streak of comic books review, Lashaan! I’m not familiar with this one but I certainly enjoyed your opinion of it. Sounds pretty awesome!
I’ve also been reading a lot more comics lately so it’s nice to see they are still alive and kicking in the blogiverse ๐Ÿ™‚ I think there’s a real lack of them, especially in bookish blogs. Most people either review novels or comics, but rarely both. So your posts are amazingly refreshing.
    Keep it up!

    1. Oh yes. I do like to share my thoughts on most of the comics I read. I don’t know anyone who does it as much as I do, but I do love to shine light on them as they are great stories there, just as many as any novel! ๐Ÿ˜› Glad to hear you’ve been reading some too lately! Happy reading, Sophie! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Beautiful review my friend, I’ve just (finally) finished reading MM myself. It’s a special piece of work and I see how it garnered the acclaim (and awards) that it has, rich themes and deep characterisation married with sublime, arty visuals.

I tend to agree with your 4 star rating though, it just feels like there is something missing for me to push it to the full 5. Perhaps it’s my lack of experience with Kirby’s Fourth World and less interest in the central character than one of the mainstays – Batman, Superman et al. Still, a great read and Mr. King always delivers the goods.

    1. Thank you, good friend! Indeed it is. It’s graphic yet powerful and conveys its ideas beautifully and maturely. I too do not have a lot of Fourth World knowledge but I’m glad that my first real experience of it is King’s and Gerads’ project.

I still need to check out King’s Vision run. I think it gained a lot of respect from fans too! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
