I often find these kinds of stories to be a bit underwhelming. The fact that you described it as dull in the grand scheme of things pretty much matches up to my thoughts everytime there us a story like this in a comic that heavily revolves around an origin-style setting.
Usually anything vaguely similar to Batman’s parents’ death story always has me thinking ‘I’ve read this so many times’.
Indeed! I think it’s one of the downsides of being a comic book reader too, to have read so many stories with similar premises. I don’t think it’s a bad thing that they keep on writing stories like these since there’s always a person out there who probably hasn’t read anything before and finally reads something like this.
Awesome thoughts my friend, pretty much in-line with my own. Apart from the Mr. Freeze arc, I’ve not been too impressed with Tomasi’s Detective run so far – it just isn’t grabbing me on the whole and it all feels a bit messy and sub-par. I generally like Doug Mahnke’s art but, as is the case with other pencillers, I think DC’s twice-monthly publishing (they were supposed to be moving back to a monthly schedule but I haven’t seen that occur yet – the main Batman book is still going to double-ship until Batman/Catwoman launches, I hear) is causing it to come out a bit rushed…but man, if you didn’t like the art on this there’s some far less appealing work to come from other artists in the upcoming arcs!
Yep. And this one was oddly focused on Batman too. I’m not sure this series is going to win back my attention for a while again now. I do hope it does but by the sound of what you’re saying now, I think I should really lower my expectations even more…
I would really like them to revert to the old publishing schedule too. I feel like it’ll allow them to have greater content instead of just “more” content…
Yeah I’m not sure what’s happening there but I definitely read via different sources that they would be going back to monthly shipping. I love my DC books but the rotation of artists has always been a minus point with me.
That’s an interesting plot, especially how the murdered people look just like his parents. I like that. I can only imagine what that conjures up in his tortured mind. Haha. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Lashaan!
Indeed! It’s quite twisted since you could probably Bruce Wayne torturing himself mentally on a daily basis with the images of his parents lying dead in Crime Alley. But to now physically see it again? Ouch. Thanks for reading! I really appreciate it! 😀

That’s too bad they are not better Lashaan because as I said on Instagram, I love the art in your first one!

A less than stellar Batman? Which grieving stage are you at?

I’m way past denying it all hahah With a hero like him, it’s normal that there’s 90% crap, 9% awesome, and 1% PERFECT. 😂
