    1. I thought it was going to be that but it wasn’t. The final fight with Hao is different and it has a more “lets make peace not war” message to it. The final volume (35), however, also included chapters of those spin-off sequel stories though. And they definitely didn’t make me want to go read the few volumes that exist in those spin-offs today… I’m pretty sure I’m done with anything Shaman King for now. 😛

  1. I didn’t get into this one when younger, but I absolutely understand the pull to revisit some of those stories from the past we grew up with and loved. The risk, of course, is finding they don’t hold up as well as we’d remembered. And if that happens, can we hang on to our cherished memories, putting aside how the story felt now in favor of all the joy it brought when younger? But even given this risk I still feel the pull to start revisiting some of those stories I once cherished. Glad to see you had the opportunity to do that, even if it didn’t hold up as well as you might like.

    1. Exactly, Todd. I often ended up placing Shaman King quite high in my list of anime/manga but it was always out of pure nostalgia for it. Having revisited it, I’d struggle to place it so high in my favourites but at least I’m much more informed as to what it is like. Young-me is still very glad to have discovered and enjoyed it as a kid though. It has led me to where I am today after all!
