After finishing the year with reading 86 books, 20 graphic novels and 65 comic issues, I have decided to list all my favourite books of the year (in no particular order) for those looking for new reading recommendations !

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires

If you are looking for a fun read, all the while with the suspense and mystery with vampires, this is for you! I don’t think any book has reached the genius of this book in the terms of perfect pace, perfect humour timing all the while talking about vampires. You can read my full book review here.

What a nice breeze of fresh air this debut novel by Chloe Gong! Not only it gives the Asian representation but also a new retelling of Romeo & Juliet version in different mafia gangs. Entrancing, exciting and with a nice fantasy atmosphere to it, I definitely recommend this novel to anyone who loves a good Fantasy Young Adult! You can read my full book review here.

It took me an awful long time to finally sit down and read this book and WOW it was worth it! One of my biggest highlights of 2021. I’ve never been this intrigued and invested in a story before. Unpredictable turn of events, adding to it the dark academia tones, with studying Shakespeare and having the university surrounding of theatre students. It’s brilliant. The Secret History

I’m sorry but this book completely DESTROYED me. Once I finished this book, it’s the fear that no other book will be able top it. And I was right. I finish my year and it still remains the best book experience I ever had. Complex characters, the details in the emotion, the Greek Ancient tragedies reference but blending in an acessible way that readers do not get confused. Instead, we feel like part of the group. That elite group of students who get to study Greek all year long. For fans of dark academia and greek litterature. You can read my full book review here.

This book I repeat, is not for the faint of heart. I would definitely recommend this book to people who can manage cinematic violence. Because this whole book will swallow you inside out and make you enter a world where the societal norms are totally different from you. I love this book because it forces the reader to be accustomed to the folkore and myth from Central and West Africa. Its originality resides in its structure, told like an oral epic, stories leading to more stories. You can read my full book review here.

Now it’s your turn! 🙂 Let me know what are your top 5 books, your girl here is always looking for new books to read!

Happy New Year everyone from your friendly bookworm couple, may 2022 bring you some more amazing reads 😀

  1. I totally agree that Black Leopard, Red Wolf is not for the faint of heart. It made my top books like too back when I read it. I’m plan to try the second in the series when it comes out this year.
Hope you have a wonderful year!
