1.Norvegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

screen-shot-2017-01-25-at-5-49-15-pm

Probably one of the Murakami’s best work. Using his deeply visual prose, the author succeeded in bringing a character struggling with mental illness during one of Japan’s toughest times. The layers and the depth of the character are worth the shot. Murakami will offer you the most amazing reading experience ever.

Books Review: Milk and Honey // Dirty Pretty Things

Trang is back with another review ! From a new genre of books I’ve been LOVING lately : MODERN POETRY BOOK! These two books were very popular and were circulating on m Tumblr feed for a while.

Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur: ★★★★★sfdsf

15204057_10154973158937780_902892175_o
Rupi Kaur is such a great author.

I don’t even know where to begin.

Her words are beyond perfection.

I have always loved the power of words. And these 204 pages were a complete work of art. Poetry in his simple form. No complicated syntax nor vocabularies. Simply a girl, a victim, a woman who’s been through rape, heartbreaks and love. She uses the simplest words, so simple yet so efficient it hurts. There’s something about her poems that speaks to your inner woman soul, how society perceives you and how it can affect you. She stands strong against the stereotypes and encourages the empowerment of one woman to another. #GIRL LOVE  #yes to diversity  Continue reading

Napoleon’s Last Island | Book Review

MY RATING: ★★

From the author who gave you Schindler’s List, Thomas Keneally has invented a tale of romance with a touch of the past. This is the story of Napoleon’s exile in St Helena Island.

I’d like to begin by saying that I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction because I can learn more about history while enjoying a good story and that is always appreciated.

However, this one was not impressive.

It was dragging and building up too slowly for my taste. Maybe if you are like me,  someone who has zero patience,  you will have a lot of difficult times to finish it. Continue reading

The Black Jewel by Cassie Clarke

MY RATING: ★★★

“A city in ruin.
A forest filled with secrets.
One girl with the power to change it all.

Trapped in a mundane existence in the heart of a deadly forest, Ela often imagined what life must be like away from the trees. A world without rules and restrictions, with the freedom to do anything. She’d be safe from the ever-lurking threat of the Bowen Elders, the men who seemed so determined to hurt her best friend, Caden.”

Here With Me Now by Rebecca Markus

MY RATING: ★★★

thestory

This debut novel tells the  story of Mallory, a young teenager who’s going through the difficult adolescent-age problems : high school, bullies, gossips and dramas.  Her life will take an even more complicated turn when a new 26 years old neighbor moves in : Kain. Their lives will be intertwined in a passionate and prohibited relationship.

mythoughts

Mallory is still in the middle of her teenage years (13 years old) and I guess that’s why her personality is immature and annoying. I tried to sympathize but these characters’s behaviours are not to my liking. The book may be more appropriate to a younger audience. Once I don’t click with the main character, it’s hard for me to really get into the book. But Rebecca’s writing makes it easy to follow the plot and enjoy it till the very end. Continue reading

Girls In The Garden by Lisa Jewell

MY RATING: ★★★★

The book is about this little neighborhood who has developed a special community sense until a new family came and changed everything. Clare, a single mother with two girls, Pip and Grace, are obliged to adapt to this new environment after their father had a schizophrenia period attack. Grace, the older sister, still remembers everything but Pip seems to miss her dad more than ever and writes to him everyday.

Clare’s family will meet Adele’s family, a mother of 3 girls with a, maybe too handsome, husband, Leo. And each family has their own dark secrets. The story blends suspense, thriller and drama perfectly. Continue reading

A Court Of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J.Mass

My Rating: ★

Goodreads: When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

I had such high expectations for this novel ! I think I’m going to just stop having them when reading a Sarah J,Mass novel hahah the same thing happened when I was reading Throne Of Glass.  As you can see, I gave it two stars and here’s why..2016-06-06 01.41.34 1.jpg

Relativity by Antonia Hayes- Summer Fiction Blog Tour

MY RATING : ★★★★

“Panic exists on a frequency entirely of its own.
Air into air, particle by particle, panic vibrates through the elastic atmosphere faster than the speed of sound.”

thestory

Etumblr_lxjx79u8if1qfa0f0o1_500than, a twelve year old boy who is fascinated by physics and all sort of science in general. He has an amazing memory, learns fast and efficiently. Raised by a single mother, Ethan will have to adapt to his new lifestyle struggling with his abilities and his lack of social skills. THAT’S IT. You don’t need to know more about the story.

Sex Criminals Vol.1

MY RATING : ★★

Suzie, in the need of satisfying her sexual desires, starts to touch herself.. and suddenly time freezes. Not metaphorically speaking. LITERALLY. TIME STOPS.  That’s Suzie’s super power, people! You know what? It doesn’t stop there, she meets Jon and he possesses the same ability as her. Every time they have sex, they can stop time and do whatever they want. That’s when they decide to rob a bank.

sexcriminalsvol1

The premise sounded good and I read so many good reviews about this new series. They also cover a theme that I am highly interested in. Sex. I had a lot of expectations. But after reading this volume, I lost faith in the series. Continue reading
